Tamboli First Practicing Pediatrician in Maharashtra to
get Ph.D from MUHS .
Dr.Suchit
Tamboli has been awarded Ph.D in Pediatrics from Maharashtra
University Health Sciences, Nashik. He is the First Practicing
Pediatrician in Maharashtra to get Ph.D from MUHS.
His topic
for Ph.D was ‘ Neurodevlopmental Follow Up of High
Risk New Born ’ . He assessed 500 Babies during 4
years of his studies under guidance of Dr. Ram Dhongade
, Sant Dyaneshwar institute , Shaishav Clinic Laxmi Road
,Pune .He also got guidance from Dr. MKC Nair , Vice Chancellor
Kerala university and Charudatt Joglekar from Pune , Dr.
Vasant Desle from Pune university “High risk new born”
includes those babies which are born prematurely, low birth
weight, neonatal jaundice, neonatal seizures, respiratory
distress etc.
Study
concludes that Socioeconomic factors like mother’s
education, type of family, age of parents and family history
of intellectual disability were found to have significant
association with neurodevelopmental outcome.
Identification
and stratification of high risk helps in early intervention
of these babies.
Developmental Quotient is inversely proportional to the
number of neonatal diagnosis and diagnosis at 3 months earned
by the baby.
Developmental
assessment and passive tone and neurological exam at 3 months
have predictive value and are useful for planning early
intervention.
This study
has given neurodevelopmental outcome of high risk newborn
after application of 2 standardized Indian programs which
are simple and home based. Both the stimulation programs
considered mother as a therapist. Hence need of special
therapies can be reduced with significant percentage of
abnormality reduction (40%) shown by these programs.
This study
is helpful for Pediatricians and gives comparison between
screening test and detailed test. This study has found that
Developmental Observation Card and Denver Development Screening
Test are good screening tools which help to identify developmental
delay.
